Review: In these trying economic times, people need to take advantage of good deals whenever they present themselves.

The Orange Savings account from ING Direct is a good deal, and offers up one of the most competitive interest rates out there.

Let's compare.

The Orange Savings account offers a variable 1.85% APY (Annual Percentage Yield). This is a standard interest rate, which you are eligible for no matter how much money you have in your account.

Compare this rate to a standard 0.69% money market rate, or a 0.42% standard savings account rate, and you will quickly see the difference.

Free money is free money. If you have $10,000 in your ING Direct Orange Savings account, then you will be making $185 pre year in interest, compared to $69 from a money market account or $42 from a standard savings account.

In this current economic environment, I'll gladly take the $185 per year, thank you very much.

There are absolutely no fees, and there are no minimum deposit or maintenance amounts.

If you deposit $100, then you are eligible for the 1.85% interest rate.

If you deposit $100,000, then you are still eligible for the same 1.85% interest rate.

All deposits are insured by the FDIC up to $250,000 per depositor, so your money will be safe at ING.

ING is a massive multi-national corporation that has been in business for many years. The company was founded in 1991 and has over 100,000 employees. It has offices in many different countries across the world, including Australia, the United States and Canada.

Orange Savings accounts are linked up to your existing checking account, which will allow you to easily move money in and out of the Orange Savings account. You can set up pre-authorized deposit plans as well. So, for instance, you could arrange for $100 to be deposited into your Orange Savings account every month from your checking account.

You will also be given a debit card that can be used for transactions at ATM machines and at merchants. This works just like a standard bank card.

The application process is extremely quick and easy. Simply follow this link and you will be taken to the application page. According to their website, the application process should take you no more than five minutes at the most.
