Schooling: Gates graduated high school from Lakeside School in 1973. Gates earned admission to Harvard after scoring a 1590 on his SAT.
Gates took a leave of absence from Harvard in November of 1975, never to return. The "Microsoft" partnership between Gates and Paul Allen was hatched shortly after that (actually, the name of the original company was "Micro-Soft"), and the rest is history.
Prior to Microsoft: Gates, along with his friends Paul Allen, Ric Weiland and Kent Evans, worked together at a company called Information Sciences, Inc. The foursome was tasked with creating a payroll program in COBOL.
A short time later, Gates and Allen teamed up to start a company called "Traf-O-Data".
Gates also spent time working on a congressional page in the US House of Representatives before attending Harvard.
Allen and Gates eventually went on to work at MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems) in 1975, which eventually led to the formation of Microsoft.
Other Notes and Info: -Gates has pledged to transfer nearly all of his multi-billion dollar wealth to his charitable foundation.
-Gates is currently the second richest person in the world (total net worth of $53 billion) behind Carlos Slim Helu.
