The second round of the ATP Vienna event will continue on Thursday with a number of matches, including Andy Murray vs Gilles Simon.

Andy Murray entered the second round after beating M. Klizan 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 in the first round. Andy Murray, who is currently playing some of the best tennis of his career, is gearing up for a run at the #1 ranking in the world right now, and a strong performance in the ATP Vienna event would bolster his chances.

Murray is currently 915 points behind Novak Djokovic in the rankings and would become the #1 player in the world with victories in the Erste Bank Open 500 and BNP Paribas Masters tournaments. The BNP Paribas Masters tournament, however, is a well-attended event with many millions in prize money, so this would be easier said than done.

Andy Murray is 65-9 in 2016, with a total of six titles in 10 finals appearances. Since losing to Rafael Nadal at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters in April, Murray has managed to compile a record of 52-5 and is currently the hottest tennis player in the world.

Gilles Simon is currently the #25 ranked player in the world and was, at one time, as high as #6 in the world. Simon has over $10 million in total lifetime tournament money, so he is certainly not a pushover and Murray would do well to take him seriously.

Given the level of tennis that Murray is currently playing at, however, a win by Simon would certainly be surprising.
