Sergey Brin, born Sergey Miklaylovich Brin, is one of the co-founders of Google (Larry PAge is the other).

Brin, who is now a multi-billionaire, immigrated to the United States from Russia back in 1979. Brin attended the University of Maryland, where he focused on mathematics and computer science, eventually earning a Bachelor of Science.

Brin met Larry Page when the two were pursuing their Ph.Ds from Stanford University. The two men quickly became good friends and "intellectual soul-mates", and eventually published a paper called "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine". Brin and Page soon put their ideas into action, cobbling together cheap computer equipment to start indexing the Internet. The results were impressive enough that Brin and Page soon put their studies on hold and started soliciting money to start what would become Google.com.

Google was incorporated in September of 1998 during the height of the "dot-com boom" in the United States. Brin and Page scheduled a meeting with George Bell (then the CEO of Excite), offering to sell Google for $1 million. Bell turned down the offer, prompting PAge and Brin to look to raise venture capital money instead. By late spring of 1999, Google raised a $25 million round of funding - some of the investors were VC heavyweights Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Sequoia Capital.

Google would eventually launch two major products, Adwords and Adsense, which would help propel the company's revenues into the stratosphere. Adwords is the advertising platform that allows advertisers to place ads on Google's search engine and associate sites, while Adsense is the contextual ad placement tool that allows publishers (web site owners) to monetize their sites. Adwords is responsible for the bulk of Google's revenues.

Over the years, Google has continued to add to their product offerings through their product launches and acquisitions. One of Google's most successful acquisitions to date has been Youtube.com, which is one of the most popular individual web sites in the world.

Google is a money-making machine, bringing in over $50 billion in revenues and nearly $11 billion in profits during 2012.
