google zeitgeist 2007 - logo - pictureGoogle have released their 2007 Year-End Zeitgeist, which is basically a summary of their quickest rising and fastest falling search requests in 2007. Google states that they studied the aggregation of "billions of search queries" conducted on Google.com from people in the United States and globally as well.

"Iphone" was the fastest rising keyword in both the United States and the rest of the world in 2007. Rounding out the top five globally is "badoo" at #2 (I have no idea what this is, I must be really out of touch), "facebook" at #3, "dailymotion" at #4 and "webkinz" at #5. In the United States, "badoo" doesn't appear in the top 10; instead, "webkinz" is #2, "tmz" is #3, "Transformers" is #4 and "youtube" is #5.

The fastest falling keywords globally? At the top of the list is "world cup", followed by "mozart", "fifa" and "rebelde."

Google also breaks down the fastest gainers by quarter. For instance, the fastest gainer in the Jan - March quarter was "anna nicole smith" after she passed away, followed by "IRS" as we approached tax time. In the Oct - Dec quarter, the fastest gainers were "radiohead", "pavarotti" and "red sox", all for obvious reasons.

Google News most popular searches globally in 2007? #1 on the list was "american idol", followed by "youtube", "britney spears" and "2007 cricket world cup."

The most searched for presidential campaign? May be surprising to see that Ron Paul topped the list by a long ways, followed by Fred Thompson. Hilary Clinton rounded out the top three.

Most popular lawsuit search? "Borat lawsuit." Most popular search due to rumors of death? "Anna Nicole Smith."

Most popular search between Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan? Britney Spears and it's not even close. You can see Britney Spears' searches spike every time there was another development in her trainwreck of a life.

Most popular overall sports team when it comes to searches? The Boston Red Sox, followed by the Indianapolis Colts.

Most popular television show search? "Heroes", followed by "Lost." Most popular movie searches? "Transformers", followed by "300."

Interesting to note that in the run-up to Christmas, "Wii" is being searched much more often than Xbox or Playstation 3, which should give you a good indication as to how the holiday sales race will go between the three. As a matter of fact, Playstation 3 is lagging far behind the two.

"HD-DVD" is ahead of "blu-ray."

"LCD TV" is far ahead of "plasma tv."

Most popular fitness keyword? "Pilates." Most popular diet keyword? "Weight Watchers."

Most popular "Who is..." search? "Who is God." Most popular "What is..." search? "What is love." Most popular "How to..." search? "How to kiss."

Some interesting information contained within this document. It's worth checking out.
