Brazil is Now World's Sixth Largest Economy
According to the Economic and Business Research's annual world economic league table, Brazil now has the world's sixth largest economy.
To grab the number six spot on the list, Brazil had to pass the United Kingdom, which now sits at number seven. There are two stories here - Brazil's continued surge and the United Kingdom's slide thanks to a sputtering economy and the European debt crisis.
Here are the ten largest economies in the world according to Economic and Business Research:
1. United States
2. China
3. Japan
4. Germany
5. France
6. Brazil
7. United Kingdom
8. Italy
9. Russia
10. India
The BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are all included in the top ten. With the European Union struggling through its debt crisis and the United States economy continuing to stagnate, the BRIC countries are seen by many as the key drivers of future global economic growth.
The remaining six countries on the list are all undergoing their own trials and tribulations. The United States is in the midst of a multi-year streak of posting trillion dollar deficits and is running up a massive debt. Japan has its own staggering debt load, plus the additional problem of a rapidly aging population. Germany, France and Italy are all trying to put out a growing debt crisis fire, while the United Kingdom is also taking a hit thanks to a sputtering economy.
