Secret Service Has "Planned" For the Possibility of President Trump Going To Jail
Earlier today, President Donald J. Trump was found guilty of all 34 counts in his "hush-money" trial.
Sentencing is set for July 11th, and President Trump could face up to 4 years in jail.
While the likelihood is fairly low that President Trump actually goes to jail (prediction market site Polymarket pegs the possibility at just 16%), the Secret Service needs to plan for the possibility of this happening.
You see, one of the perks of having been the President is that you (and your wife) are guaranteed protection by the Secret Service for life.
According to a statement from the Secret Service, "under federal law, the United States Secret Service must provide protection for current government leaders, former Presidents and First Ladies, visiting heads of state and other individuals designated by the President of the United States."
This protection doesn't stop if President Trump goes to jail.
If President Trump does go to jail, the Secret Service will be coming with him.

The Secret Service reportedly had discussions with the jailhouse that would house President Trump, should Trump be sentenced to time in jail and not probation.
It would surely be a logistical nightmare protecting the President while behind bars, though the Secret Service is developing a plan to do so, if necessary.
No matter the scenario, the Secret Service is charged with protecting former Presidents, and jail bars won't stop them from doing so.
