Definition of Cloture

What does the term "cloture" mean? What is the definition of the term "cloture" as it applies to politics?

In any parliament or Congress, different members will have varying opinions about proposed laws and bills.

In order to prevent endless debates, a procedure called "cloture" (or closure) is used to move the proceedings past the debate stage and to a vote. By enacting a cloture, a debate is soon terminated and moved to the voting stage.

In the United States, "the Senate may limit consideration of a pending matter to 30 additional hours, but only by vote of three-fifths of the full Senate, normally 60 votes".
