Jensen Huang
01Overview
Jensen Huang is worth an estimated $173.4 billion. Almost all of it is Nvidia stock: about 811.5 million shares, roughly 3.4% of the company he co-founded in 1993 and has run ever since, worth $172.2 billion at the October 22, 2026 close of $212.21. The rest is an estimated $1.1 billion left from stock sales after tax, plus his homes.
Few fortunes have grown faster. Forbes put Huang at $21.1 billion on its 2023 billionaires list, before the AI boom turned Nvidia into the world's most valuable company, the first to pass $4 trillion (July 2025) and $5 trillion (October 2025). Forbes first had him above $200 billion on May 14, 2026.
Our figure is lower than Forbes' because we count only the shares in his own Form 4 filings. Nvidia's 2026 proxy reported him at about 870 million shares as of March 23, 2026, about 58 million more than his own filings show. About 140 million of the shares we count sit in two irrevocable family trusts; without them he would be worth about $144 billion.

| Bloomberg Billionaires Index | Profile accessed October 23, 2026 | $172B (No. 8) |
The gap is mostly a share count. Forbes' profile dated October 22, 2026, which reflects the October 21 close, describes a stake of about 4% and moved by $4.7 billion on a 2.5% rise in Nvidia, which implies about 866 million shares, close to the 870 million in Nvidia's 2026 proxy. Bloomberg uses about 3.3%, based on filings, and excludes unvested stock awards, which is close to our count. We use the 811.5 million shares reported in Huang's latest Form 4, filed September 18, 2026. Nvidia fell 4.4% on October 22; at that close Forbes' share count would be worth about $184 billion.
03Assets and Liabilities
Huang's wealth is one stock held through several family vehicles. Nvidia shares are about 99% of our total, so every $10 move in NVDA changes his net worth by about $8.1 billion. Share counts are from his Form 4 filed September 18, 2026, valued at the October 22, 2026 close of $212.21.

Not included: the Jen-Hsun & Lori Huang Foundation (about $9.2 billion at the end of 2024) and the family's donor-advised fund, because the money has been given away; 39.85 million shares (about $8.5 billion at $212.21) moved in December 2025 to an independently managed LLC that Huang says he no longer beneficially owns; unvested performance stock units; and pre-2023 sales. Nvidia's insider trading policy bans pledging company stock as loan collateral, so unlike some founders he has no disclosed share-backed loans.

06Background
From Taiwan to Kentucky to Oregon
Jen-Hsun Huang was born in Taiwan on February 17, 1963, and spent part of his early childhood in Thailand. Around 1973, when he was about nine, his parents sent him and his brother to the United States, first to an uncle in Tacoma, Washington, and then to the Oneida Baptist Institute, a boarding school in rural Kentucky. His parents later joined them and the family settled near Portland, Oregon. Huang skipped two grades and graduated from Aloha High School at 16.
Denny's, Oregon State and Silicon Valley
At 15 he started working at a Portland Denny's, washing dishes, busing tables and waiting on customers. He earned an electrical engineering degree from Oregon State University in 1984, where he met his future wife, Lori Mills, as a lab partner; they married in 1985. He designed chips at AMD and then worked at LSI Logic, rising to director of its CoreWare division, while taking night classes for a master's degree from Stanford, which he finished in 1992.
07Building Nvidia
A booth at Denny's
Huang, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem planned Nvidia over meals at a Denny's in San Jose and founded it on April 5, 1993, with Huang, then 30, as chief executive. In September 2023 Denny's put a plaque on that booth marking the company's $1 trillion valuation.
The GPU and the IPO
Nvidia went public on January 22, 1999, selling 3.5 million shares at $12 and raising $42 million. It closed its first day at $19.70, valuing the company at about $626 million. Later that year it launched the GeForce 256, which it marketed as the first graphics processing unit. Six stock splits since then add up to 480 shares for every IPO share, so one $12 share from 1999 was worth about $101,900 at the October 22, 2026 close, before dividends.
CUDA and the bet on AI
In 2006 Nvidia released CUDA, software that lets programmers use its graphics chips for general computing. It cost years of investment before it paid off. In 2012 researchers used two Nvidia GPUs to train AlexNet, the image-recognition network that started the deep-learning boom, and Nvidia's chips became the standard hardware for training AI models. When generative AI took off after 2022, Nvidia was the main supplier of the chips behind it.
08The Trillion-Dollar Years
Nvidia became the first chipmaker worth $1 trillion on May 30, 2023, and the first company of any kind worth $4 trillion (July 9, 2025) and $5 trillion (October 29, 2025). Huang's wealth tracked it: $21.1 billion on Forbes' 2023 billionaires list, $77 billion in 2024, $98.7 billion in 2025 and $154 billion in 2026. Nvidia closed at a then-record $239.24 on October 6, 2026, and Forbes had him at $204.5 billion on October 2. At the October 22, 2026 close of $212.21, Nvidia was worth about $5.11 trillion and his stake about $172.2 billion.
09How His Shares Are Held
Trusts and annuity vehicles
Huang holds only about 70 million Nvidia shares in his own name. Most of the rest sit in the living trust he shares with his wife and in six LLCs owned by that trust, which pay shares back to the trust over time. Two more trusts are irrevocable: the 2012 trust, which the New York Times reported was seeded with shares worth about $7 million and held 31.4 million shares (about $6.7 billion) at his September 2026 filing, and a remainder trust that received about 59 million shares in March 2026, when two grantor retained annuity trusts set up in 2016 ended. The Times estimated in December 2024 that this planning could save the family more than $8 billion in estate and gift taxes.
Counting the irrevocable trusts
Huang reports the two irrevocable trusts as shares he beneficially owns, and Forbes and Bloomberg count them. But assets in an irrevocable trust generally belong to its beneficiaries, generally his heirs, not to him. Together they hold about 140 million shares, worth about $29.8 billion at the October 22 close. We include them in the headline, as the trackers do, and use their exclusion as the low end of our range.
A December 2025 restructuring
In December 2025 the family partnership J. and L. Huang Investments distributed all of its shares. Of those, 39.85 million went to a trust that immediately transferred them, without payment, to an independently managed LLC, and Huang reported that he no longer beneficially owns them. We leave those shares out.
10Selling and Giving
Trading plans
Huang has sold Nvidia stock under pre-arranged 10b5-1 trading plans. In September 2023 he sold about $42.8 million worth after exercising old options. From June to September 2024 he sold 6 million shares for about $713 million, finishing a plan that ran to March 2025. A plan adopted in March 2025 allowed up to 6 million more shares through the end of 2025, and he sold more than $1 billion by October 31, 2025. His filings through September 18, 2026 show no open-market sales that year.
The foundation
He and Lori Huang started the Jen-Hsun & Lori Huang Foundation in 2007 and fund it mostly with Nvidia stock. As Nvidia rose, so did the foundation: it held about $9.2 billion at the end of 2024, according to its 2024 tax return, and Inside Philanthropy estimated that it had likely overtaken the MacArthur Foundation. It also gives through a donor-advised fund. He has kept adding shares: his filings show gifts of 141,488 shares in December 2025, 400,000 in June 2026 and 438,000 (about $96 million) on September 17, 2026, the last split between the foundation and the donor-advised fund.
Universities
Huang gave $30 million to Stanford in 2008 for the Jen-Hsun Huang Engineering Center. In 2022 he and Lori pledged $50 million to Oregon State for the Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex, a $200 million research building built around an Nvidia supercomputer.
11Pay and Property
Compensation
Huang's reported pay for Nvidia's 2026 fiscal year, which ended January 25, 2026, was $36.3 million, down 27% from $49.9 million a year earlier. It was made up of a $1.5 million salary, $24.8 million of stock awards, a $6 million cash bonus and about $4 million of other compensation. His pay is tiny next to his shareholding: the stake moved by more than that on most trading days in 2026.
Homes
The Wall Street Journal reported in 2024 that the Huangs paid $6.9 million for their Los Altos Hills home about two decades ago, $7.5 million in 2004 for a gated beachfront house in Wailea on Maui, and about $38 million around 2017 for an 11,400-square-foot mansion in San Francisco's Gold Coast, bought through an LLC. We count these at what they paid, about $52 million, because current values are not public.

15Sources and Method
This is a sum-of-the-parts estimate. Nvidia stock is valued at market: the 811,521,160 shares in Huang's Form 4 filed September 18, 2026, his latest, times the October 22, 2026 close of $212.21, which gives $172.2 billion. Cash is about $1.76 billion of stock sales from 2023 to 2025 less about 37.1% capital gains tax (20% federal, 3.8% net investment income tax and 13.3% California); we do not know how he has spent or invested it. Real estate is counted at reported purchase prices. That gives $173.4 billion.
The range runs from about $144 billion, leaving out the two irrevocable family trusts, to about $186 billion, using the roughly 870 million shares in Nvidia's 2026 proxy instead of the Form 4 count. We do not count the family foundation, the donor-advised fund, unvested stock awards or the 39.85 million shares moved to an independently managed LLC in December 2025. We do not deduct taxes he would owe if he sold. The figure moves by about $8.1 billion for every $10 change in Nvidia's share price.
