How Often Did Obama Mention Guns and the Deficit?
Earlier tonight, President Obama stood in front of the nation and gave his fifth State of the Union address. This was Obama's first State of the Union address since winning his re-election bid back in November of 2012.
Heading into tonight, many people were asking the same question - what would be the main points that President Obama would hit on during his speech? Job creation? Gun control? Health care?
There will be many pundits tonight who will dissect Obama's address to the nation.
I thought that I would take a different approach and literally parse President Obama's speech, searching for how many times he mentioned certain words, and then comparing that information to last year's State of the Union address.
Let's start with "gun".
President Obama said the word "gun" six times during his 2013 State of the Union address. He mentioned this word zero times during last year's speech.
"Deficit"? President Obama said that word 10 times tonight and seven times during last year's State of the Union address.
"Debt"? President Obama uttered the word "debt" twice during tonight's State of the Union address, and nine times during last year's speech.
