Fox News Cancels Trump's Planned Appearance on "The O'Reilly Factor"

Earlier today, Fox News announced that they were cancelling Trump's planned appearance on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Thursday night. This move came as a surprise, especially since Bill O'Reilly had plugged Trump's appearance on his show the previous evening on a late night talk show.

Donald Trump didn't take the news well, posting this on his Twitter account:

"@FoxNews has been treating me very unfairly & I have therefore decided that I won't be doing any more Fox shows for the foreseeable future."

Fox News didn't give a specific reason for the cancellation of Trump's appearance, though they said that Trump "engages in personal attacks on our anchors and hosts, which has grown stale and tiresome".

Donald Trump has frequently attacked Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly following the first GOP debate in August. Many, including Donald Trump himself, felt that Megyn Kelly was attacking Trump and asking unnecessarily harsh questions during the debate. Donald Trump went on the attack following the first debate, which resulted in Trump being largely excluded from coverage of the GOP primary race on Fox News. Trump and Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes talked on the phone afterwards and agreed to a truce, though that pact seems to have now disintegrated.

The general consensus is that Fox News does not want Donald Trump taking on Hillary Clinton (or Bernie Sanders) in 2016, and that they would prefer a more traditional conservative instead.

One thing is for sure - winning the GOP nomination will be much easier for Trump if he can get Fox News back on his side, thanks to their large conservative viewership base.
