Definition of Birther
What does "birther" mean? What is the definition of the term "birther"?
A "birther" is somebody who believes that President Barack Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States, and is therefore not eligible to be President of the United States of America, per Section 1 of Article Two of the United States Constitution:
"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
There are a number of theories that "birthers" have regarding Barack Obama. One of the most widely-held theories is that Obama was actually born in Kenya and not Hawaii, and that his Hawaiian birth certificate is a forgery. The White House released a certified copy of President Obama's long-form birth certificate in April of 2011 to try and quiet people once and for all, but a large contingent of skeptics maintain that this document was forged.
Donald Trump, Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin are three prominent Republicans who have brought up the subject of President Obama's birth certificate in the past, with Donald Trump having been especially vocal on the issue.
