09How This Is Counted
- Candidate spending is the total disbursed by every House and Senate candidate's campaign committees for the 2026 election, including candidates who lost their primaries.
- Outside spending is independent expenditures reported to the FEC by super PACs, party committees and other groups, for or against a 2026 House or Senate candidate.
- Not included: party coordinated spending, electioneering communications, issue ads that do not name a candidate, and spending by groups that do not report to the FEC. Totals from other trackers that include those will be higher.
- Candidate figures are as of the latest reports filed (through December 31, 2026). Outside spending is updated as 24- and 48-hour reports come in. This page refreshes four times a day.
- Only the 50 states are counted; the non-voting delegate races for DC and the territories are left out.
After November 3, this page will add the results: the cost per vote in every race and how often the bigger spender won. See also the Midterm Polls and Prediction Markets Tracker and the history of US midterm elections.
